And those who seek to adopt the mantle of Galileo generally don't know the real story behind his case anyway. It wasn't really  about science, although that became the outward reason as the dispute went on; it was about church politics and some large egos and abrasive personalities. While complicated, it was actually much more interesting (and revealing about people) than the pop-history "bigoted blind clerics / visionary scientist" version.
